OUT NOW

MYRIAD PATH

Myriad Path is the biting sequel to JUNOs debut album Young Star - where the band reveals a darker and more conceptual side of their music than heard before.

The new album ranges from fierce drum grooves and explosive rap to big, dreamy pop choruses, floating improvisation and beautiful harmonies; a zig-zag pattern of textual and musical unfolding, where catchy chaos meets elaborate compositions in the band's uncompromising style.

Myriad Path is even sharper at the edges than the debut. It’s louder, more powerful, more devilish. (..) JUNO is uncompromising, and they bring with them a resistance, disturbing sounds in the middle of riffs and hook - a solid and unique expression.”

ABOUT JUNO

JUNO is a band consisting of five young musicians who met at the prestigious Jazz Academy in Trondheim, Norway. Their catchy pop-jazz tunes combine complex grooves, rap, lyrical melodies and experimental improvisation, which gives the band a distinct and original sound. All of these elements result in an exciting and energetic live performance, which during the last six years has been widely appreciated by the European audience.

Their long awaited debut album Young Star was released the 24th of January 2020 on Jazzland Recordings, and recieved excellent critiques both in and outside their home country. The record is produced by Kristoffer Lo (known from Highasakite and PELbO), and presents 12 different tracks within their chaotic and energetic universe.

This March their second album Myriad Path will be released, also on Jazzland Recordings, and will show a more adventurous, conceptual and fierce side of JUNO, where their individual voices will come through more clearly than before.

In 2022 JUNO was selected to be a part of the showcase festival Nordic Jazz Comets in Copenhagen (DK), as the only band from Norway, in addition to playing the prestigious 12 Points Festival in Amsterdam (NL) in 2019 and the digital showcase SIM Sao Paulo (BR) towards the South American market in 2020, to mention a few.

The band has played over 120 concerts together, and amongst that, most of the big jazz festivals in Norway (Molde International Jazz Festival, Oslo Jazzfestival, Kongsberg Jazzfestival, Nattjazz in Bergen, Trondheim Jazzfestival, Bodø Jazz Open, Mandaljazz, Tromsø Jazzfestival and Festspillene i Nord-Norge) - and other well renowned showcase festivals like Trondheim Calling and By:Larm.

This spring they will do an extensive tour in Scandinavia to promote their upcoming album. Find upcoming tour dates here.

 REVIEWS

“Two vocalists with completely different sounds; from noisy jazz improv to mournful music as soft as velvet; from long stretches to quick turns and tempo changes. The highs and lows are exactly what make their music so inviting.”

★★★★★☆
Saga Eline Jonsson Hoff, GAFFA
Langs Akerselva 2021

“With a rapping flow more tight than Kanye and a unique ability to unexpectedly break into free jazz, they always keep their audiences on the edge, which is cemented by their extraordinary capacity for interplay. A strong delivery from the band that eventually might become the best live band in Norway.”

Vebjørn Arff, SRiB
Trondheim Calling 2019

«It’s a new world of sound that is always intense and fizzing with excitement; melodic solos, rap, groovy rhythms, free jazz!!!»

Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival 2018 (UK)

”JUNO is one of the young jazz scene’s most attractive festival bookings; they have played more than 100 live concerts as a band, and since the last time I saw them their mix of conscious jazzrap, art-pop and agressive riffs, with small air pockets of free improvisation, has gotten even more ramified.”

Filip Roshauw, Jazznytt
Mandaljazz 2021

Young Star is a very solid debut album, where JUNO takes us on an exiting musical journey, playing with genres and stretching our concept of jazz.”

about Young Star

“How does it sound when Björk, Hiatus Kaiyote and M.I.A. enter the stage on a jazz club together? The answer lies within JUNO’s music. (..) Everything meshes brilliantly, passages with rap and bright vocals, expressive saxophone, warm bass lines and imaginative drums, tempo and genre changes included.”

SINGLE RELEASES

“CATERING QUEEN”

A repetitive and insistent pattern dominates the soundscape, with a sharp, distorted saxophone on top of a hard, trap-like groove.

Catering Queen paints a picture of the true femme fatale - the woman who has everything you want, that you will never forget.

“VOLCANO CALL”

An energic song in the classic JUNO-style - with surprising twists and unexpected sonic solutions, that stretches with the elements of the traditional pop form. Great musical contrasts describes the feeling of losing control and seeing oneself from a new perspective.

“RUN, HUN”

Run, Hun is an escape-from-yourself song, insistent and desperate, where inner chaos has turned the surroundings upside down.

The two vocalists convey fragmented thoughts and dark warnings with harsh rhymes and whispered cries over the stormy landscape.
